Where language meets science

Linguistics - the science of language - is the ultimate crossover discipline. It underpins every aspect of human communication and has a vast interdisciplinary application. It offers something for everyone, whether you’re interested in geography, psychology, languages or politics. You may already be a language professional or a language student, or maybe you’re just wondering how people really spoke in Shakespeare’s time, why some people start a sentence in one language and finish it in another, where a new word has come from, or why some languages are dying out. Linguistics has the answers to all these questions and more!

Linguistics HQ is a new initiative which aims to get people thinking, talking and learning about the science of language through a range of products and an awareness campaign. Linguistics is something we’re all innately aware of. It’s the explanation for all our communicative behaviour. It’s essential knowledge, especially for language learners. It can give a fresh, thought-provoking and relevant perspective on curriculum languages in schools. It can bring about social change. Often your first chance to study linguistics is at university, but why wait until then to discover what the science of language has in store?
